Laparoscopic surgery is the type of surgery that we've used for several years now, which entails not a big incision but multiple little small 5 millimeter to 1 centimeter incisions, where we introduce instruments into the abdomen and we're able to remove organs that are diseased for example the gall bladder or the appendix or the colon, and the advantage of laparoscopic surgery that is minimally invasive meaning there's no large incision, these are small little incisions who are better tolerated by the patient, there's less pain after the operation and there's less recovery time after the operation.
The pros for minimally invasive surgery is basically patient comfort after the operation, again we're dealing with small little incisions measuring from 5 millimeter to 1 centimeter as opposed to a long incision, to remove many organs in the past that we had to use a big incision for so the patient has a better- faster recovery, less painful recovery, and this will affect the patients in the sense of being able to get back to work a lot quicker and get on with their lives a lot quicker.
Laparoscopic surgery helps the surgeon a lot too. Particularly today we are- we're using the robot which is the proper way of performing laparoscopic surgery where we have better visualization, better techniques, better maneuverability then we do in an open procedure so for a surgeon as well, a laparoscopic surgeon in some cases are actually much easier and more physician friendly as well in performing than open procedures.
